Ralph’s Donuts, a Cookeville staple since 1962, got some great publicity this week, as The Daily Meal, a culinary website, ranked the Cedar Avenue shop among its top 25 donut makers in the country.
Ralph’s ranked 21st for its apple fritter.
“The giant, lumpy apple fritter at local landmark Ralph’s has been a favorite of Tennessee Tech students and locals alike for more than 50 years,” the website says. “It’s a classic donut shop, complete with a counter and stools, and a throwback to an earlier time. Ralph’s is a little tricky to find, but it’s a true small-town gem and a place where time stands still.”
Taking the top spot was Chicago’s Doughnut Vault and its plain glazed donut.
